US CubeSat Network for Marine Conservation

A U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and NASA study is looking into how to use CubeSats to better understand and protect the marine environment and the animals that live there, such as whales, sharks and sea turtles.

CubeSats are small satellites that can form a state-of-the-art network to track the movement of marine animals with more precision than is possible today.

The satellite data will be useful to BOEM, other federal and state agencies, academia, and conservation organizations concerned with protecting and conserving marine wildlife.
