Eight Personnel Rescued from Crash in Philippine Sea
PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 17, 2017) A C-2A Greyhound assigned to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30 launches from the flight deck of the Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier and flagship of Carrier Strike Group five, the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Ronald Regan is participating in Annual Exercise 2017, the premier training event between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, is designed to increase the defensive readiness and interoperability of Japanese and American Forces through training in air and sea operations. The U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) continue search and rescue efforts in the Philippine Sea after a C2-A Greyhound aircraft crashed 500 nmi southeast of Okinawa today. Eight personnel have been recovered from the crash.
Eleven total personnel were onboard the aircraft, which was carrying cargo from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to USS Ronald Reagan, which is operating in the Philippine Sea as part of an exercise with JMSDF.
