The Texas Earth Day festival, EarthX, kicks off tonight with a screening of Jeff Orlowski’s Chasing Coral, a “green carpet” event to be held at the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas.

On Friday night, Apr. 21, Sylvia Earle, the explorer-in-residence at the National Geographic Society, will keynote the EARTHxGlobal Gala at the Texas Discovery Garden alongside ocean activist Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Earle will speak about her Mission Blue initiative, geared toward exploring and protecting the ocean with the help of new technologies that can reach the 95% of ocean that is still undiscovered. The initiative aims to increase ocean protection from 5.1% of the global ocean to 30% by the year 2030.
