Watch: ‘Invisible Iceberg’ Titanic Episode
New 3D underwater scans of the Titanic are shedding light on the doomed liner’s final moments before sinking into the frigid waters of the North Atlantic 113 years ago. AccuWeather Founder and Executive Chairman Dr. Joel N. Myers is taking a look back at how weather conditions on that fateful night made the iceberg virtually invisible from a distance, which is why the lookouts on the Titanic did not see the iceberg until it was too late.
In an episode of “Invisible Iceberg,” Myers and AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno uncover the weather factors that led to the tragic sinking of the Titanic, including a series of warm years in the Arctic that increased the rate of melting glaciers in Greenland long before the Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage.
The series is based on the book ”Invisible Iceberg: When Climate and Weather Shaped History,” authored by Myers.
