Underwater Drone Offers 360-Degree Lighting and Video

The 360-ROV will be officially launched at the 2019 Underwater Intervention event.

The 360-ROV is a high definition, 360° spherical, modular ROV and lighting system that uses eight high-definition cameras and a powerful computer to create a live-streaming 360° spherical video. It carries more than 74,000 lumens of white, cool and UV light and captures all viewing angles simultaneously.

The 360-ROV has a modular design that allows components to be changed as technology advances, and it can be used with a virtual reality headset, such as Oculus Rift, in order to navigate via the user’s head movements.

SWL Robotics, which created the device, says it is intended for activities that include conducting underwater inspections of oil rigs and cargo ship hulls, underwater cabling operations, marine services, security operations and recreational content development. It is also intended to advance underwater hardware options for working with virtual and augmented reality tools in marine industries.

The company is currently taking pre-orders. It will officially launch 360-ROV in February 2019 at Underwater Intervention in New Orleans.
