Norsafe Helps Prepare
For Introduction of Polar Code

Norsafe has become the first LSA supplier to have executed full-scale tests and trials during a joint stakeholder SAR-EX (Search and Rescue) expedition with the Norwegian Coast Guard, Norwegian Maritime Authorities, Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authorities, ENI, DNV GL and five different universities.

Full-scale test studies were also carried out to test the performance of installed sprinklers when used in icy conditions.


Proteus Geo, AECOM to Test
New Bathymetry Service

Proteus Geo is working with AECOM to test its new satellite derived bathymetry service. The two companies recently completed a day of workshops, where AECOM experts looked at how the enhanced water depth data provided by the DHI analysis of DigitalGlobe satellite data could support the delivery of real-life projects.

Steatite Antennas Division
To Open New Facility in 2017

Big changes are underway at the Antennas Division of Steatite. A new facility is nearing completion and will be the new home of the Antennas Division in early 2017. The new site represents an investment into the antennas business. Richard Johns will assume the role of sales and marketing manager. David Keenan and Jaime Amador will assume RF engineering roles. Keenan brings more than 20 years’ experience in antenna design from FM to Ka-band. Amador brings experience developing innovative solutions in the field of aeronautics and defense.


Global Shipping Industry Slams
European Parliament Proposal

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) says that a unilateral decision by the European Union to incorporate international shipping into its regional Emissions Trading System (ETS) will polarize and impede current discussions on additional CO2 reduction measures at the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO).

“We hope that EU governments and the European Commission will see sense and recognize that threats to their trading partners will not serve the development of the global solution which both they and the shipping industry want and need,” said Simon Bennett, ICS director of policy and external relations.


Uson Marine Joins Evac Group
Evac Group has recently acquired Swedish dry and wet waste management company Uson Marine in hopes to increase their market share, while providing customers with an improved sales and service network and an even wider offering. This network will provide more local service options, including current status system analyses, process and system design, system installation, training, and support.


Fugro’s G4 Satellite Correction Service
Optimizes Galileo Launch

Users of Fugro’s G4 satellite correction service will be among the first in the world to benefit from Galileo’s initial services launch. The launch of Europe’s satellite navigation system’s new “initial services” capability means that all Fugro’s G4 satellite correction service users will instantly benefit from much greater accuracy and reliability.

Fugro’s G4 service, launched in February 2015, was the first to utilize all available global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) – GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou.


Major Expansion Gets
Approval at Aberdeen Harbour

The Board of Aberdeen Harbour announced that its plans to expand facilities into Nigg Bay, to the south of the existing harbor, have gotten the go-ahead.

Commencement of the £350 million project, which was recently granted planning consent in the form of marine licenses and a Harbour Revision Order by the Scottish government, was sanctioned in December by the board.


Hill Dickinson Strengthens Marine Practice
Hill Dickinson has reached an agreement that will bring the shipping practice of Swinnerton Moore LLP to the firm. The agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of February and will see founding partners Tony Swinnerton and Lewis Moore join Hill Dickinson’s London office.

Swinnerton specializes in all aspects of contentious dry shipping and has extensive experience of conducting arbitrations and High Court cases. Moore specializes in ship sale and purchase, ship finance and all shipping-related contentious matters.

The award of Chartered Master Mariner (CMMar) is intended to be the gold standard defining those who have benefitted the industry, improved their own professional capability and helped others. The Nautical Institute is partnering with the Honourable Company of Master Mariners (HCMM) to introduce new professional standards under the Royal Charter. Ashtead Technology to Expand
Middle East Capabilities

Ashtead Technology has recently acquired TES Survey Equipment Services LLC. Based in Abu Dhabi, the company sells and rents a range of environmental, geophysical survey and ROV equipment. The acquisition will enable Ashtead Technology to increase its offering of customer service in the Middle East.


Triton’s Investment in DeepOcean Completed
DeepOcean Group Holding B.V. has announced an investment by Triton in the company that was completed at the end of December 2016. Through the substantial equity raise and the future support of Triton, DeepOcean should be able to weather any downturn in the oil and gas markets and take advantage of growth opportunities in the industry.


OSIL to Expand In-House Facilities
OSIL have expanded their U.K.-based in-house facilities to include an in-house engineering and CNC machining department.

The equipment in the new department includes XYZ full cad cam lathes (with capacity up to 425-mm diameter by 200-mm length) turning centers and vertical machining centers (up to 1,200-mm X travel and 650-mm Y travel), manual lathes and vertical mills. The division also uses full 2017 Solidworks and One CNCXR6 Cam Software.

ClassNK has opened exclusive survey offices in Izmir and Mersin, Turkey. The number of surveys and audits required in recent years in western and southern Turkey have been increasing. The opening of these two offices improves the efficiency of its ship surveys and audits along the southwestern part of Turkey.

EcoMATE MRV enables shipowners to monitor all vessel types within the fleet with a single integrated tool. Portable 18-Man HRF delivered to JFD
JFD, a part of James Fisher and Sons plc, has accepted the delivery of a portable 18-man hyperbaric rescue facility (HRF) that will offer offshore operators an encompassing solution for hyperbaric reception across the whole of the U.K. This service provides a cost-effective solution by capitalizing on asset-sharing benefits, and also aims to increase safety. The portable system is now available for hire and can be transported and stored on standby at a nominated port of recovery, allowing clients to minimize SPHL/HRC travel distance and time as part of their hyperbaric rescue plan.
