Damen DOP Dredge Pump
Used in Hazardous Project

Damen Dredging Equipment delivered DOP submersible dredge pumps to Dutch contractor Martens & Van Oord in Cadzand, Netherlands, where they have unexploded ordnance from World War II in the seabed.

The DOP350 was attached to one of Martens & Van Oord’s pontoon-based excavators. The DOP pumped the bottom material&sand and occasional UXOs&to reinforce screening installation. This was used in contrast to mechanical dredging.

Camper Comfort for
Freezing Falcon Team

Working in -10° C high up in the French Alps, the Jifmar team found that the most comfortable and convenient way to inspect the Tignes Dam was to load their Saab Seaeye Falcon ROV system and themselves into a recreational camper.

The mission was to assess the integrity of the dam wall and structures such as water inlets, and measure the amount of sedimentation at the bottom of the wall.

U-Boat Worx Unveils New
Deep-Diving Tourist Submarine

U-Boat Worx has launched three new luxury submarine models: the Cruise Sub 5, Cruise Sub 7 and Cruise Sub 9. The Cruise Sub 5 and 7 are capable of diving to 1,140 m, making them the deepest-diving tourist submersibles ever. Depending on the model, it can carry five, seven or nine people per dive.

Traditional tourist subs have small windows and passenger seating like a bus. The new cruise sub series includes a panoramic view thanks to two large acrylic spheres that place everyone on the front row.

Ecoslops Wins Award in
Worldwide Innovation Challenge

Ecoslops was recently awarded £200,000 in the Future Program’s Worldwide Innovation Challenge, awarded by the French government. The award was in the Collection, Sorting and Recycling category for the company’s P2R-MDO project for the desulfurization of marine diesel oil. The subsidy will be used to finance a major part of the PR2-MDO project.

Expansion Plans for Hydro Group
As It Invests in Aberdeen Energy Park

Hydro Group has expanded its premises by investing £2 million in a new 13,700-sq.-ft. bespoke facility, set to open in 2016. The company currently occupies a 45,500-sq.-ft. facility at the Aberdeen Energy Park.

The development follows on from a £300,000 investment last year in the advanced armor line, enabling the offering of cable products to improve and support subsea operations.

Transas Integrates Theyr
Weather Service in Navi-Planner

Transas has teamed up with Theyr Ltd. (UK) to incorporate weather and ocean data within the Transas Navi-Planner 4000. With the weather data from Theyr, the Planner will provide end-users with important features like on/off toggling of the weather overlay.

The weather and ocean data parameters include wind speed, barometric pressure, precipitation, air temperature, sea surface temperature, tropical storms and hurricanes, visibility, significant wave height, period, and direction.

Kongsberg’s ‘Monster’ Discovery
Kongsberg Maritime Ltd. has achieved the unimaginable and uncovered the elusive Nessie. That is, the long lost model of Nessie used during the filming of 1970’s “The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.”

The discovery was made during Operation Groundtruth, a first survey of its kind in Loch Ness, led by Kongsberg and supported by The Loch Ness Project and Visit Scotland.

Aqua Comms Ltd. announced it has successfully completed a proof of concept of Ciena’s WaveLogic Encryption solution, demonstrating the ability to safeguard all data at the optical layer on its high-capacity America-Europe Connect (AE Connect) cable system, a critical route that spans 5,400 km across the Atlantic.

ABB’s Azipod D Propulsion Wins
European Marine Engineering Award

ABB has won a European Marine Engineering Award, acknowledging the innovation behind the new Azipod D electric propulsion solution. The award was in the Auxiliary Machinery category, honoring auxiliary systems that demonstrate innovative and original development that improve a ship’s operational efficiency or reduce risk to personnel.

Rotech Subsea Ltd. Purchases
Gemini Narrow Beam Imager

Rotech Subsea Ltd. has purchased Gemini Narrow Beam Imager systems. The sonars are to be installed in single- or dual-head configuration for use on Roetech’s RS range of excavation tools and will support the increased volume of work they are securing worldwide in the oil and gas and renewables sector.

Milaha Takes Delivery of
Biggest Lift Boat in Qatar

Milaha has taken delivery of a new life boat, which will be deployed offshore in support of field maintenance efforts. Named the Milaha Explorer, the newbuild will be the biggest lifeboat to be owned by a Qatari company, with a large deck and variable load capacity, as well as the ability to accommodate 300 people.

“We believe that this strategic asset will help augment our status as a partner in the life extension of mature fields and enhanced field maintenance services,” said Vivek Seth, CEO, Halul Offshore Services Co.

STR Enhances Rental
Portfolio with iXBlue

Subsea Technology and Rentals has chosen iXBlue’s OCTANS NANO subsea gyrocompass for utilization in ROV and structure monitoring operations. The order is part of STR’s expanding range of iXBlue navigation and positioning technology.

NANO is the smallest and most adept state-of-the-art, attitude and heading reference system, according to iXBlue.

University of New South Wales
Invests in Sonardyne Scout

The University of New South Wales is using underwater positioning technology from Sonardyne Asia Pte. Ltd. in Singapore to support pioneering research into human impact on marine and estuarine habitats.

The Scout-Pro Ultra-Short Baseline system tracks the position of divers while they collect sediment samples. It records the location where samples are taken from, faithfully representing humans’ impact on native marine and estuarine ecosystems.

Industry Body Establishes Subsea
Business Hub in Milton Keynes

Companies specializing in underwater oil and gas operations based in Milton Keynes, England, recently met to discuss and seek solutions to overcoming the challenges facing them as a result of low oil prices. Subsea UK, the body that represents the £9 billion British subsea sector, hosted this first-ever event in Milton Keynes.

“This event is an important step in helping organizations in the Milton Keynes area to come together in turbulent times to find new ways of working and new opportunities which encourage companies to collaborate,” said Neil Gordon, chief executive, Subsea UK.

Growth Enhances MacArtney Singapore Position
An ambition to provide better service to MacArtney’s customers in the Asia Pacific market has resulted in a relocation of MacArtney Singapore to bigger and more spacious environments and in the set up of a new local office in China.

The new premises of MacArtney Singapore include, in addition to their dedicated sales office, various warehouse and workshop facilities, namely, a fiber-optic workshop, as well as a dedicated slip-ring repair workshop and a molding workshop.

Elcome International Establishes
Service Center In United Arab Emirates

Elcome International LLC has been appointed by Coltraco Ultrasonics to provide service and technical support for its products in the United Arab Emirates. Under the agreement, Elcome is establishing an authorized Organizational Delegate Authority service center for Coltraco’s Portalevel MAX and Portascanner ultrasonic products at its headquarters faciility in Dubai.

Portalevel MAX is Coltraco’s eighth-generation liquid level indicator. The UL-approved intrinsically safe product uses ultrasonic technology to detect the level of fire suppression agent contained within a cylinder.
