Texas A&M University scientists found dense communities of mussels, clams and tube worms thriving on petroleum seepages from oil reservoirs in the continental shelf seafloor off Louisiana’s coast. ... Inmarsat authorized the execution of a $50 million contract with McDonnell-Douglas Corp. for the use of U.S. government launch facilities to enable the Delta-2 rocket launch, scheduled for December 1989, to get the Inmarsat-2 into orbit. ... A decade-long study of ice-covered Lake Hoare in Antarctica’s Taylor Valley found that radical climate changes typically occurring over thousands of years were occurring in periods of less than 100 years.
