OTC 2014

The 2014 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will be held May 5 to 8 at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas, and will celebrate its 45th anniversary this year. The conference, which encompasses 650,000 square feet of exhibit space, is expected to have the largest footprint in its history, with more than 2,700 exhibitors in the sold-out indoor exhibition halls, OTC Pavilion and OTC Parkway outdoor exhibition space, the organizers said.

OTC 2014 will present a range of topics through more than 80 technical sessions, industry breakfasts, topical luncheons and panel sessions. This year's technical program will include updates and best practices from international and national oil and gas companies, including Pemex (Mexico City, Mexico), Total (Paris, France), PETRONAS (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), BP (London, England), Chevron (San Ramon, California), Shell (The Hague, Netherlands), Noble Energy (Houston), CNOOC (Beijing, China), Statoil (Stavanger, Norway), INPEX (Tokyo, Japan), Maersk (Copenhagen, Denmark), Marathon Oil (Houston) and Anadarko (The Woodlands, Texas). Additional program highlights include presentations on changes in Mexico's oil sector; oil economics, gas monetization and capex outlook; development of offshore unconventionals; and subsea engineering education.

The conference will also present new applications and solutions for underwater monitoring networks and sensing, and process safety in offshore operations. Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp. (JOGMEC) of Tokyo will share results from the first marine methane hydrate production test and will highlight methane hydrate as a resource.

The OTC University R&D Showcase provides universities the opportunity to share their current and planned R&D projects relevant to offshore technology. Attendees can learn more about these projects during any of the four days of OTC on Level Two of Reliant Center.

Young Professionals Outreach
A special OTC session for young oil and gas professionals will take place on May 5.

During 'The First Decade: The Foundation of Your Career,' seasoned industry leaders will offer advice on building and maintaining a strong network, standing out in a competitive environment and leveraging mentoring to build career success. The program will also address employer expectations, effective networking and other topics essential to the transition from university student to industry professional.

Anniversary and Networking Events
In recognition of the milestone anniversary, OTC will bring attendees together for a concert on the Reliant Stadium floor on Wednesday evening. The celebration will feature musical entertainment, food and drinks, and informal networking.

OTC also offers several other informal opportunities to meet others with common interests, whether attendees are looking to expand their professional network or form new business relationships. This year's networking events focus on women in the industry, Mexico's energy reform, major projects around the world and innovations in the Pacific Rim.

Industry Awards
The Annual OTC Dinner will take place May 4 on the floor of the Reliant Stadium. This year's dinner will raise funds for Medical Bridges, an organization that distributes donated medical supplies to developing nations. Several OTC Distinguished Achievement Awards will be presented during the event.

The OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals will be presented to Carl Arne Carlsen. This award recognizes Carlsen's significant advancements in the safety and reliability of offshore structures, his extensive contributions to the practical applications of risk management, and his exemplary development of people, technology and standards for the industry.

The OTC Heritage Award will recognize Susan Cunningham in recognition of her outstanding technical contributions in the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, and for her exemplary leadership in the offshore industry.

The Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations and Institutions will be given to BP's Claire Ridge for the successful deployment of the first sanctioned, large-scale, offshore use of LoSal EOR (Low Salinity Enhanced Oil Recovery) technology.

The awards for innovative technology with wide industry applications are part of the Spotlight on New Technology program, which is exclusively for OTC exhibitors. The program is designed to showcase products that recently entered the marketplace but are already advancing the oil and gas industry. The awards will be presented on May 5 at Reliant Center.
