ST Conference PreviewCARIS 2014
CARIS (Fredericton, Canada), a leading developer of geospatial software, will host its 15th International User Group Conference from June 2 to 5 in Brest, France, a historic maritime city and one of Europe’s main centers of marine science and technology.
The theme of the conference is “Developing the Blue Economy.” Through the use of advanced technology and forward-thinking organizations, hydrography will play a significant role in sustaining our oceans. Going beyond traditional core maritime activities, hydrographic data can support an increasing number of applications, including coastal zone management, ocean science, offshore energy, environmental monitoring, tourism and many others.
CARIS 2014 will be the world’s largest gathering of CARIS users. New and existing users will have an opportunity to share their experiences and achievements, talk to industry leaders and fellow users, drive the direction of CARIS software, and hear firsthand about the latest CARIS software enhancements and workflows.
In the late ‘80s CARIS started forming user group meetings for its users to provide them with an opportunity to gather and share their ideas and opinions in a common forum. It was from one of these regular user group meetings that the idea was born to host a conference that would allow as many clients as possible to gather together to share their ideas and discuss the latest CARIS technology.
While the topics during the conferences have changed over the years, the focus remains the same. CARIS continues to provide its clients with an invaluable opportunity to gather among other CARIS users and CARIS product specialists to learn the latest product features and share expert knowledge.
Dynamic two-day boot camps on June 2 and 3 focusing on the leading hydrographic data processing system, HIPS and SIPS, and the support of S-100 hydrographic data standards in CARIS solutions will be featured at CARIS 2014.
The HIPS and SIPS boot camp will allow participants to experience the most trusted application in the industry for hydrographic data processing. The HIPS and SIPS boot camp is aimed at new users and will focus on the critical workflows for processing bathymetry, seafloor imagery and water column data using the latest industry techniques.
The S-100 boot camp will teach the evolution of S-100 hydrographic data standards in CARIS software. The S-100 boot camp is designed for individuals interested in learning more about the transition from S-57 to S-100 data standards and workflows using the applicable software to support this.
User Group Meetings
CARIS 2014 will feature two-day specialized user group meetings on June 2 and 3 for HIPS and SIPS, Bathy DataBASE and HPD users. These meetings deliver a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange among these three rapidly expanding groups of new and experienced users.
Each user group meeting will be chaired by an expert user from Service Hydrographique et Océanographique de la Marine (SHOM), with support from CARIS product managers and developers to deliver candid updates on current and future development plans while providing valuable answers and feedback on the topics brought forth by participants.
Two days of conference sessions on June 4 and 5 will be the highlight of CARIS 2014. CARIS conferences bring together an unmatched roster of top experts and speakers to present in-depth technical papers.
Under the conference theme, Developing the Blue Economy, CARIS 2014 will celebrate the work of its users. In-depth presentations from like-minded individuals will highlight techniques, challenges, accomplishments and future software needs across the areas of processing, analysis, production and discovery.
As CARIS’s Academic Partnering Program continues to expand across the globe, more and more students are using the power of CARIS software to complete new and exciting research. CARIS 2014 will feature a poster session for students to showcase their research and interact with industry professionals.
There are a number of social events planned for the week, allowing delegates to network with fellow attendees. An icebreaker event will be held on Monday evening overlooking the Marina du Chateau where attendees will enjoy the sights and sounds of Brest. The gala dinner will take place on Wednesday evening, treating attendees to an unforgettable experience.
