Canadian Hydrographic Conference

The 2014 Canadian Hydrographic Conference (CHC) will take place in St. Johnís, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, April 14 to 17 at the Sheraton Hotel.

St. Johnís is Canadaís oldest city, and it shows its old-fashioned charm in winding, hilly streets lined with colorful buildings.

Overlooking historic St. Johnís Harbour, the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland is at the center of a thriving community and offers travelers a wealth of amenities, all within easy reach of the historic cityís myriad attractions. The hotel also provides quick access to St. Johnís Harbour, this yearís on-the-water demo site. Those who booked their rooms before February 28, 2014 are guaranteed convenient and exceptional accommodations and great savings on the room rate.

North American Hydrographic Conferences
For the past couple of decades, North American hydrographic conferences have been held annually, alternating between U.S. Hydro conferences in odd-numbered years, hosted by The Hydrographic Society of America (THSOA), and Canadian Hydrographic conferences in even-numbered years, hosted by The Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), and more recently by the Canadian Hydrographic Association (CHA), the Canadian counterpart to THSOA.

CHA is the only national hydrographic organization in Canada, embracing the disciplines of hydrographic surveying, marine cartography, marine geodesy, offshore exploration, and tidal studies.

CHA is formally affiliated with the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) and informally associated with THSOA.

Attendance
Traditionally, North American Hydrographic conferences attract attendees from the Canadian and U.S. governments, industry and academia involved in hydrographic and related disciplines. In addition, several delegates from Europe, Asia and Africa often find their way to our conferences.

Technical Program
The conference will include workshops on current topics in hydrographic surveying and a full schedule of technical sessions on the latest issues, developments and applications in hydrography.

Workshops
Half- and full-day workshops are being hosted by HYPACK Inc. (Middletown, Connecticut), Chesapeake Technology Inc. (Mountain View, California), Esri (Redlands, California) and QPS (Zeist, Netherlands), among others. Visit the CHC 2014 website at www.chc2014.ca for complete workshop program and sign-up details.

On-the-Water Demonstrations
The city of St. Johnís is located on a natural harbor. The Sheraton Hotel is located just a short walk from floats that are ideal for mooring small vessels. The vessels can take several delegates at a time on a short cruise around the harbor to demonstrate the latest in hydrographic technologies. Be sure to sign up with the exhibitors early, as these on-the-water demos tend to fill up quickly.

Partners and Sponsors
Our two Platinum-level sponsors are Kongsberg Maritime (Kongsberg, Norway) and Esri. Esri is sponsoring our exhibitorís reception, and Kongsberg Maritime is sponsoring our icebreaker reception. Other sponsors on board as of this writing include Rolls-Royce (London, England) and Fugro GeoSurveys Inc. (St. Johnís) as Gold-level sponsors, IIC Technologies (Columbia, Maryland) and CARIS (Fredericton, Canada). Some sponsorship opportunities still exist.

The main conference partners are the Canadian Hydrographic Association and the Marine Institute of Memorial University, Newfoundland. The Canadian Hydrographic Service, IIC Technologies and the University of New Brunswick are also part of the conference organizing team. Contact the conference organizers if you want to join our select group of partners or wish to avail yourself of one of the great sponsorship opportunities that remain. You can register now at www.chc2014.ca to guarantee your seat.
